The Cotton Bowl has emerged as one of college football’s greatest year end traditions. The history of the Cotton Bowl extends back to 1937. Seeking to give Texas a competitor to California’s famed Rose Bowl, a wealthy oilman named J. Curtis Sanford began making arrangements to create a contest featuring some of the country’s top rated college teams. His dream became a reality on January 1, 1937, when TCU got past Marquette 19-9. That first contest featured the talents of Sammy Baugh of TCU and over the years the Cotton Bowl has served as a springboard into the NFL for a host of legendary players.
