Alamodome

Adding to the lure of the Alamo Bowl is it’s setting in the Alamodome, one of the country’s top venues for college football. The Alamodome is a multi-use facility capable of seating up to 72,000 fans in the largest of its configurations. Located in San Antonio, Texas, the Alamodome opened in 1993 after three years of construction and a $186 million dollar price tag. Its location right outside of the San Antonio downtown area puts it within walking distance of major attractions like the River Walk and the San Antonio Convention Center. Because of the design of the stadium in a rectangular form rather than the traditional round stadium, diverse events like football, basketball, ice skating, musical concerts, and trade shows are able to be held in the same facility, as seating capacity can range from 24,000 to a high of 72,000 for large events such as the Alamo Bowl. As a basketball arena with a seating capacity of 35,000, the Alamodome currently serves as the home of the 2005 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs.

Driving directions to the Alamodome are found below, but to avoid delays and traffic congestion the city of San Antonio would prefer you use the efficient public transport system to attend the Alamo Bowl game.

From I-37/HWY 281 take the Alamodome/Durango St Exit.
